I have been teaching in New Boston since 1996 and have grown to love the school and the community. I received my Doctorate Degree from New England College in May of 2014. Before teaching in New Boston, I taught 2 years in the Dept. of Defense Dependent Schools in Germany and two years for the Mascenic School District. I have two children who have both benefited from all that New Boston Central School has to offer. My Philosophy of Education: I believe that my job as an educator is to help my students to become life-long lovers of learning and responsible, respectful world citizens. In order to accomplish this, I aim to provide an environment that is respectful, open and safe for all people. As students are encouraged to face challenges in this environment and succeed, they will not only build the confidence to continue to face challenges, but they will also see there are several ways any challenge can be approached. My teaching style can best be described as one that incorporates diverse teaching methodologies and techniques, including self-reflection. I aim to teach to each child’s learning style, while at the same time to help my students to explore new ways to approach problems and tasks. Students not only need to explore content, but they also need to explore ways in which they learn best. We all have ways that we remember and connect and use information we learn. I teach my students to reflect on not only what they learned but also how they learned, so that they will be better prepared to learn anything. I understand the importance of using instructional strategies that appropriately address the different learning styles and needs of students in order to be an effective educator. It is important for my students to understand and accept, not only their own learning styles, but also those of their classmates. As this knowledge grows, students are able to take more responsibility in their own learning and the learning of their classmates. The talent to help students to get to know and appreciate their own abilities and those of others around them is one of my strengths as a teacher. Through this appreciation, students are more confident to face challenges in their learning. They also become less hesitant to ask for help. In conclusion, my goal as a teacher is to instill a passion for learning while providing my students with the confidence and tools they need to be successful in that learning. I want my students to be able to appreciate their own talents and strengths, as well as the talents and strengths of others. I believe this enables them to be world citizens who make a positive impact.
