1.26.20 Quiet week this week….
In reading we are reviewing the skills we have been studying over the last 5 weeks, including identifying main idea and details that support it, author’s purpose (why did the author write this selection and what does (s)he want us to know?), verbs, long vowel sounds and learning about the world around us.
Most of us have finished our opinion essay about New Boston (I will post a picture of our bulletin board next week) and we are almost ready to independently write an opinion essay about how we can make New Boston and even better place to live.
In math we are continuing our study of decomposing and composing numbers (taking them apart and putting them back together again). We are composing and decomposing base ten blocks (be sure to ask your child to show how they have done it on the ConnectEd website) and coins.
Just a couple of notes: since I have asked students to bring a show and share that has to do with what we are studying, many have been “forgetting”. Please help your child remember and think of things to bring. Those who have remembered, have been talking about properties of the things they have been bringing. They can also bring interesting coins, anything about space or weather, or books that they can share the main idea or author’s purpose.
If you would like to place an order from Scholastic so your child has a good book to read over February break. You can order on line using my code FBLZ8. If you are ordering books as a gift to your child, shoot me an email and I will let you know when they come in. Here is a link: https://clubs.scholastic.com/2nd-grade-2/ I will put in an order on the weekend of February 7.
