12.8.19 This week should be a regular week….I hope.
Your child should have brought home spelling words, the updated homework sheet, and his/her Thursday folder home on Thursday. We WILL have our spelling test on Thursday this week. If your child misplaced spelling words, you can get them on the webpage in last week’s blog. (I usually don’t post them, it is my way of building responsibility in my students, however, if they are really lost don’t hesitate to email me and I will send them to you.)
Math homework has changed. As I explained to your children, many of them are feeling quite secure in their math facts and math is so much more than facts. Please see your child’s homework sheet for more information and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me. (I have also updated the homework sheet on the homework page of our website.)
*ConnectEd was down last week…it should be working again, please let me know if you have any problems.
I realize the Thursday Folder had a lot of work in it. Please be sure to review it with your child…that can even help for one of the “math homeworks”. This week your child’s Thursday Folder will contain the last of Trimester 1 work. You may keep the folder at home (I will take the off the signature sheet as a reminder). Your child will get a new Thursday folder next week.
This week we are starting Unit 4 in math. This week we will be concentrating on telling time on analog clocks to the nearest 5 minutes. In reading, we are focusing on forces and energy. We are reading nonfiction, exploring good places to reread. In grammar we are starting to explore verbs. In writing, we are starting to look at how to write a persuasive essay. Last but not least, we are studying properties and phases of matter in science!
The holiday season is upon us! My goal is to stay focused on academics as long as possible. I was thinking about doing a celebration on the afternoon of Friday, December 20. In the past, we have done a book exchange, allowing students to have something good to read over vacation! Each student may bring in a new or gently used WRAPPED book. On Friday, new books are put in one pile and gently used books are put in another. Students take turns choosing a book from the appropriate pile, based on what they brought. I encourage gently used books to all students, although some really like new books. Would someone be willing to organize snacks and maybe a short game or craft project for that afternoon?
