1.4.20 I found it helpful to have a couple of days to ease back into our routine last week. I hope it was helpful for you and your child as well.
In math this week we will be focusing on measuring with feet, inches and centimeters. I will be looking for your child to be able to estimate and measure to the nearest whole foot/inch or centimeter. Perhaps, you can take some time to look for things around the house that are about a foot long or an inch long. Your child can measure and see if the estimation was correct.
We will be integrating our social studies and reading this week as we study about communities and ways people help make their communities a safe and good place to live. This would be a good week to discuss some careers people choose to help those in their community.
In science, we are continuing our unit on matter and discussing properties of matter. Early this week, we will be looking for materials with insulating properties. I have asked your child to bring in a clean pair of socks (which will be returned) and if you have any empty 16-ounce water bottles with the covers, those would be helpful too.
I have posted some pictures of the hats we made the week before vacation. We discussed the properties of clothing worn in hot weather. We then designed a hat with a paper bag, a paper plate, foil and a paper towel in order to protect us from the sun.
Last but not least, about half of you have signed up for a parent teacher conference. Thank you! If you have not signed up for one, PLEASE email me 3 times that you are able to come to meet with me, and I will do my best to choose one of them. I am pretty booked this week and next, however I am pretty open the week of January 20 and January 27. I also am open on January 15.
