1.7.2018 A few things to report this week….
Your child should have brought home the paper work for the Native American Project on Friday. If they “forgot” or lost it, please print it from the homework page of our website. I would really like them to do some planning about how to get the project done on time without waiting until last minute. I am asking you to sign the “planning sheet”, letting me know that you and your child have done some talking about this project. I told our students that I expect that with the 2+ hours they are going to get in school and working a total of 2 hours at home, they will be able to produce a quality project. We also talked about different ways they can break up the work they need to do at home (10 minutes a day for 12 days, 20 minutes a day for 6 days, or even 1 hour a weekend for the next 2 weekends).
I realize that there was a lot of work in this week’s Thursday Folder. I still need the signed Thursday folders on Monday of this week, even if you and/or your child need more time to review the work in it. You may keep the work at home continue to review it. If there is work that needs to be completed/fixed, your child may work on it some more this week and put completed/fixed in the Thursday Folder next week.
I hope you all saw they permission form for our trip to the State House and New Hampshire Fish and Game in 2 weeks. I haven’t told your children yet, but we do request that students dress “business casual”, which includes clothes such as slacks (or their VERY best jeans if need be), a collared shirt, a skirt/dress, and shoes (or the very nicest sneakers they have). Ties/suits are not too much if students have them and want to wear them. No need to buy anything special, but we do like our students dress nicely for this trip. We will be going to places of business and are representing New Boston. My bottom line when students ask questions about what to wear is that you, as their parents, will help them decide what would be best to wear.
It is getting close to our mid-year student/parent/teacher conferences. Your children will be filling out reflection forms NEXT week, reflecting on what has gone well, areas that need work, and setting a goal to make the most of the rest of their fourth grade year. I would like to schedule conferences starting on January 22nd and finish conferences before February break (February 23). Please send me an email with 3 times that work for you and I will do my best to make one of them work. MY best times are after school at 2:30, 3:00 or 3:30. (I do have meetings until 3:30 on Wednesday, February 7th and 21st, as well as Tuesday, February 6th and 13th). I can do mornings and evenings if you really cannot get out of work to meet mid-afternoon. Please be sure your child can make it to this meeting as well (he/she will be conducting the meeting!).
