11.17.18 Thank you to Christel for volunteering to organize the sign up for our theme basket this year, you should be getting a “sign up genius email” from her soon. Donations need to be sent in during the week of January 14th. If you would like to help “wrap them”, you can contact Kelly Jordan at email@example.com.
We are heading into the holiday season. I usually am pretty low key at school when it comes to holidays. I do however, like to have a small celebration and a book exchange the last day of school before the winter break. I ask students to bring in a gently used or new wrapped book. Students will take turns opening a “new” book that they can bring home and read over break. I do separate the books so that those who bring in a gently used book will get a “new” gently used book in return. I usually get about half new and half gently used. If you would like to purchase a new book, whether it’s for the exchange or for Christmas gifts, Scholastic book club offers them fairly cheaply and you can order on line. https://clubs.scholastic.com/ When you use our class code is FBLZ8, I get bonus points which I use to keep our classroom library up to date. I will be placing an order on the weekend of November 30 so that we can be sure the books make it in time for our break. If you are ordering books for your child for Christmas, just let me know and I when I get them I will email you so you can secretly pick them up.
Lastly, your child’s first report card will be coming home on December 14th. Many teachers will be holding conferences during December to help parents understand the report cards. I would like to hold conferences off until the middle to end of January. I would like your children to come back from break and take time to reflect on what they have learned, what they still need help learning, and make some goals to share with you at our conference. If you would like to meet before then I would certainly be happy to do that, however, I would also like to meet in January and include your child.
I hope you all have a restful and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
