10.1.2017 Happy October! I am hoping your children are finding a “fourth grade rhythm” by now. This month, I will be working with your students to help them move beyond their academic comfort zone. I will be asking them to think about how to best use their time (which is often NOT sitting raising their hand waiting for me while I am working with another student). “Best use of time” may include rereading directions, putting something down on paper, or moving on to the next problem. I have warned your children that there will be times they will be uncomfortable, but that is how they know they are learning. Just as when we exercise, if we want to get stronger, we need to push just beyond our comfort zone.
I hope you have gotten to look through your child’s Thursday folder. I strongly encourage you and your child review the work and the notes I write on his/her papers together. This will certainly help them to improve future work and not make the same mistakes over and over. If you or your child have any questions about the work or the notes, please encourage your child to ask me, so I can help. As I said at Back to School Night, this is a great year for your child to become more comfortable with asking his/her teacher for help. Of course, you also may send me an email or write a note.
Several students did NOT pass in Reading Log journals on Friday. Please check with them and help them to remember to get them in tomorrow.
Last but not least, each child got a list of weekly assignments “taped” to his/her assignment book so that they don’t have to copy the same thing every day. Please remind your child that these assignments ARE their homework and he/she is responsible for doing them each week.
