9.24.2017 Thank you to all who came to Back-to-School Night. I apologize if I spoke too quickly and I seemed rushed. I really wanted to give those of you who were going to the Lynn Lyons talk enough time to get there, get a parking spot and a seat. Please don’t hesitate to email or stop in if you have any questions.
I always forget something at Back to School Night…this year it was adding something to the Parent questionnaire. I would like to assign “computer work” for homework (Working on ConnectEd, Learning.com, Google docs, etc.) every now and then. In order to do this however, I need to be sure each child has access to an “internet capable computer”. Please email me and let me know whether or not your child can get on line in the evenings and/or on the weekends. If your child does not have this access, I certainly understand and will avoid requiring computer work for homework.
Many of you have already set up beginning of year conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with you all. If you signed up and I didn’t get back to you, please let me know. It is not too late to sign up if you would like a beginning of year conference. Please remember this is your opportunity for you to tell me about your child. I cannot tell you much more than teachers in the past have already told you.
Those of you who signed up to volunteer for our class, I will be getting back to you within the next 2 weeks. Please be sure to watch the anti-bullying video, sign the verification, and get your fingerprints done at the SAU, if you haven’t already. The good news is that once you get your fingerprints done now, they are good for 12 years!
I do need a volunteer (this does not need the verification or fingerprints) to organize our PTA class theme basket. Basically it involves sending out an email to our class parents when it is time, making suggestions as to what parents could send in, keeping track of what comes, and what is still needed. I’ve seen some parents use a “sign up app” to help organize class parties and I think it would work great for this as well. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as you can. These theme baskets bring in a lot of money for the PTA. Also I would love to have a volunteer (or 2) to organize the Halloween and/or Holiday parties. Thank you in advance.
Speaking of PTA, I did send home a paper discussing the PTA 5K Fun Run on Friday. This is another great fund raiser!
Last but not least, Reading Log Journals and At Home Journals start this week. Everyone’s Reading Log Journal will be coming home on Monday and will be due back on Friday. There are directions in the front and a rubric stapled to the back of the journal. Your child has had a couple of practice runs and I think they are ready to try on their own. I don’t expect them to earn all hundred points right away, although I do expect them to read my notes, choose and area they want to improve and work to improve it.
At home journals will come home on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, it will depend on the day your child chooses. I will be taking your child’s journal once a week and either reading it or reviewing it. I expect your child to write in it at least 3 times a week for 10 minutes. We have written a few times in class so I know what “10 minutes of writing looks like” for your child. ;)
