Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Can you believe how fast summer is going by? I hope you all are having a great and restful summer, filled with some great reading, playing and laughing. This will be a great year of learning, exploring, and discovering! We will start the year getting to know each other, reviewing many of the skills we learned in 3rd grade, and getting back into the school routine. I hope you are looking as forward to this coming year as I am and if there is anything you are worried about, don't hesitate to email me from the link on this web page.
As far as supplies, there are a few things you will need for school.
First things you need are a positive attitude and a smile; they get you through challenges better than any tool I know!
Don't forget some water, a snack and a lunch. (You can also bring money for snack and lunch if you would like).
I am also encouraging students to bring in:
a journal (it can be as simple as a single subject notebook or as fancy a bound book specially made for journaling)
a single subject notebook for a reading log (Wide ruled notebooks work best for fourth graders)
8 folders (two for each quarter, please be sure they will be durable enough to last 9 weeks of daily backpack travel)
a box of crayons (8 is plenty, but no more than the 24 pack please)
2 boxes of tissues for the class
1 bottle of hand sanitizer for the class
If it is a problem for you to get any of these supplies, we have ordered some so we can be sure every child has what he or she needs.
I am very excited to see you on September 5th!
Homework Policy for the Beginning of the Year
Because research shows that students have greatest success when taught a process, such as homework, I will be spending time teaching how I would like homework completed. Therefore, the only homework, during the 1st two weeks of school will be to share the events of the day with an adult at home and to read independently for 20 minutes. See the "Homework" page for more details about homework after two weeks.
