2.2.20 Happy February.
We are starting a new unit in reading. During this unit we will be reading about how different environments make our world an interesting place. We will be reading both non-fiction and fiction about these environments.
Well, I have discovered we are not quite ready to independently write an opinion essay, so we will continue building our understanding of the differences between facts and opinions, as well as the difference between facts that support our opinion and facts that do not. I found it sweet that many of our students found it difficult to think of something that would make New Boston a better place to live because they thought it was perfect as it was.
In math this week we will be learning to count up and back by 10 and 100. I am looking for students to see that when we count by 10s and 100s, that it is only the digit in the 10s or 100s place that changes. Also, when we count by 10 past 100, the tens still go up by 1 (100, 110, 120 (10 tens, 11 tens, 12 tens)).
With February here, I am sure some of you are wondering what the plan for Valentine’s Day is. I honestly would like to keep it as low key as possible. We will be having our Kids Heart Challenge at right after lunch until about 1:00 and then I thought I would let students pass out their Valentines and have a little snack. Is there anyone who would be willing to send in juice boxes or some cookies? Secondly, I would like your child to practice remembering students in his/her class, therefore I am not planning to send home a list of students. We have 23 students and it might be fun to have your child write down as many as he/she can remember, then bring in the list to figure out whom he/she did not remember and copy them down.
