9.15.19 Thank you all who were able to come to Back-to-School Night and those who filled out yet more paperwork in the Back-to-School Night folder. I think I have contacted all the parents who gave me dates and times for a beginning of year conference. If you would like a beginning of year conference and have not heard from me, please email me 3 dates and times you are able to come. I will try to choose one that works for me as well. Remember, the purpose of this conference is for you to tell me about your child from your point of view. Your insights are quite helpful in providing your child what he/she needs to get the most out of his/her second-grade year.
I hope to be contacting those who volunteered to come in this week. ***I still need a volunteer to organize our class theme basket in January.**** Someone from the PTA will reach out to you when it is time to start, and will help you if you need help. Please let me know if you are willing and able to help as soon as you can, so I can forward your information on to the PTA
Homework papers came home in your child’s folder on Friday. I plan to send them home each Friday and have them due each Thursday. I have attached a pdf on the homework page of my website in case it gets lost. Each week, your child needs to study Spelling Words (tests are on Thursdays) and Addition Facts for at least 5-10 minutes, 3 days a week. There are plenty of ideas of how to study on the homework sheet. Your child also needs to read at least 10 – 15 minutes 5 to 7 days a week. I explained to your child that it is better to do a little studying and reading each day, as opposed to doing it all at once. For example: it is better for the brain to read 10 minutes a day for 5 days than to read for an hour 1 day a week. Please email if you have any questions.
Thursday Folders will be coming home on Thursday this week. Please take some time between Thursday afternoon and Sunday evening to go over the papers with your child. Have him/her choose two or three papers (maybe one that makes him/her very proud, and one that was very difficult) about which to tell you. Then please sign the Thursday folder and send it back by Monday morning.
Last but not least, many of you asked me to send home book orders every month. Each month (except October because that is the PTA book fair) I will send you a link to the 2nd grade flyers and when I plan to order. You can order on line using my code FBLZ8. If you are ordering books as a gift to your child, shoot me an email and I will let you know when they come in. Here is the link to the second-grade flyers for September: https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=606187 I will order September books on September 27th.
