9.22.19 We are starting to settle into our routines. This week we met our 5th grade Curriculum Buddies from Mrs. Gentili’s class. We will be meeting with them every other Friday. It is an excellent opportunity for students to learn from fellow students.
Next week we are starting our R.T.I. (Response to Intervention) program. We also like to call it W.I.N. (What I Need) time. During this time students are divided into small groups. Some will work with one of our Reading Specialists (Ms. Wayland, Ms. McCoy, or Ms. Delisle) and some will work with me. This gives us the opportunity to provide small group instruction to our students in the areas in which they need the most help. As a team, we pay close attention to how each student progresses and shift students among groups as needed.
Homework looked good this week! I hope it is challenging, yet manageable for your child. I do want to remind you that it is truly critical that your child read at least 10 minutes a night for at least 5 nights a week. Studies show reading practice is a key to success throughout your child’s school career and beyond. If you would like a parent friendly article, I would be happy to send one along.
This week we are finishing up our Social Studies unit about culture. We have learned that culture is built through foods we eat, ways we celebrate, our language (ex. What we call our parents and grandparents) and traditions we have. Please talk to your children about from where your traditions come and encourage them to share with their classmates, maybe even though a show and share.
Last but not least, many of you asked me to send home book orders every month. Each month (except October because that is the PTA book fair) I will send you a link to the 2nd grade flyers and when I plan to order. You can order on line using my code FBLZ8. If you are ordering books as a gift to your child, shoot me an email and I will let you know when they come in. Here is the link to the second-grade flyers for September: https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=606187 I will order September books this Friday September 27th.
